Peek into our Raised Bed Veggie Garden in May of our first gardening year. We're planting seeds, tiny plants that we started indoors, and plants bought from the nursery. Favorite summer garden recipes included!

    Ready to plant the garden.

Planting Day in the Garden, May Year 1

    May 25, 2019

On a sunny late May day (5-25-19), we planted the majority of our garden. This is in no way a "how to garden" story. It's more of a journal of a beginner. We built a big garden and are learning as we go! This is what we planted:

    Veggies we Bought Starter Plants

Tomatoes (3), Peppers (2), Eggplant, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cantaloupe, Watermelon, Zucchini, Spring Onions (split from neighbor), Chives, Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, Flowers-Marigolds, Zinnia, and many native perennials around walkways

Eight raised bed vegetable gardens planted.

Veggies Transplanted from Seeds Started Inside Ourselves

Tomatoes (5), Peppers, Cantaloupe, Watermelon, Winter Squash

    Seeds Started in the Ground

Green Beans, Cucumber, Winter Squash, Cantaloupe, Watermelon, Swiss Chard, Kale (late April), Peas (late April), Carrots (late April), in window boxes-Spinach, Lettuce, Basil, Cilantro

Raised bed gardens with flagstone walkway and perennial wildflowers.

    Veggies Back From Last Year

Strawberries, Shallots (Only 1 of 8 that I planted came up. The guy at the farmer's market who I got them from said several of his didn't come up either, probably from the extremely cold winter.)
