Ingredients & Substitutions
Just a few really simple ingredients and less than 10 minutes are all you need to make your own salad dressing!

- Mayo & Buttermilk - The creamy base for the dressing, use your leftover buttermilk for these Protein Buttermilk Pancakes.
- Red Wine Vinegar and Sugar - The vinegar gives the dressing its signature tangy bold flavor while the sugar balances it just a bit.
- Garlic - Absolutely chop fresh garlic, it's an important flavor!
- Blue Cheese Crumbles - Gorgonzola is an Italian type of blue cheese, with creamy, milder, earthy yet pungent flavor. It's a great option for this dressing, but you can really use any type of blue cheese crumbles.
See recipe card below for full quantities.
Instructions
Just mix it up in a bowl and let the flavors meld in the fridge while you make your salad!

Step 1 - Add the red wine vinegar and sugar to a bowl to let it dissolve.
Finely mince 1 large or 2 smaller cloves of fresh garlic.

Step 2 - Add all the ingredients to the bowl and whisk or mix well.

Step 3 - You can use it right away, but it's best to refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors combine and the dressing thicken.
Recipe Notes & Tips
- Adjust the Thickness - You can add a bit more buttermilk for a thinner pourable dressing, or keep it thicker for dipping. It will thicken up in the fridge. I think the thicker the better!
- Ways to Use Blue Cheese Dressing - It's probably my favorite salad dressing, and is great on my Steakhouse Salad Bar Salad, Blackened Chicken Chopped Salad or this Chopped Dinner Salad with Roasted Potatoes. Blue Cheese Dressing goes well on wedge salads, Cobb salads, really anything with bacon and avocado, or simple romaine with tomatoes and cucumbers. It's also the best dip for Dry Rub Chicken Wings and raw veggies! Or use it as a condiment on burgers, wraps and sandwiches!
- Storage - Extra salad dressing will last in the fridge for up to a week. It will get thicker and bolder flavored as it sits.
