Equipment

  • crockpot

Ingredients

  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 6 cups water

Instructions

  • Add steel cut oats and water to a 3qt crockpot on LOW before you go to bed. Ready in the morning (cooks about 8 hours).
  • Add your favorite oatmeal toppings - berries, brown sugar, a scoop of yogurt or homemade applesauce, Homemade Almond Spiced Granola, raisins, or nuts.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days.  Reheat in the microwave with a little milk or water.
  • A round 3 quart crockpot is best for this oatmeal.  A larger oval crockpot will work, but since the oatmeal is more spread out, the ends can get a bit overcooked and crisp, which is not a big deal.  My larger crockpot runs pretty hot so I use the warm setting instead of low.  Experiment with your crockpot!
